Our Story

No grand how we met story, just two people who found each other in God’s perfect time.

Who would have thought that a very random video about a man hugging a lizard will lead Mike and Grace to marriage? Yes, out of all conversation starters, Mike and Grace started their friendship thanks to a cute lizard. Ironically, Grace hates lizards and she was the one who sent the video. Mike and Grace were colleagues at a start-up company and they rarely interacted with each other. The only time they talked was when it was about work. But that video change the course of their friendship. One funny video turned to many more funny videos which eventually turned into serious conversations. Mike was like “Kuya Kim” who loves to share fun trivia facts and Grace was like a fascinated student who is learning Science for the first time.

They still rarely interacted with each other at work but when they did, they just shared glances and smile at each other. They found themselves chatting almost everyday and it went on for months. Mike often accompanied Grace home so they could spend more time together. Until one evening, during one of their walks, Mike asked if he could court her. Grace’s initial thought was “Uso pa pala ang ligaw?”. Grace saw Mike’s clear intentions and sincerity so he gave Mike a chance.

After a year of friendship and courtship in between, Mike and Grace became official just days after the lockdown began. Yes, their first year of being together was seeing each other less in person. It was an uncertain time for everyone. Mike and Grace had their own challenges to deal with and they both found strength in each other. Fortunately, their relationship survived and they even had their first local trip together in Baguio City.

As their relationship grew deeper, they realized they have different interests (Anime vs. K-drama, Alternative Rock vs. Pop music, Sci-fi vs. Rom-com movies) but although their preferences are not the same, they always make sure to meet half-way. Learning to understand each other’s interests because they just love each other. Although they have differences in most cases, Mike and Grace also share the same values—respect, growth, trust, and the willingness to compromise. But if you are curious of what they both like, well, Mike and Grace share the same excitement for rides (sometimes) , resto/cafe hopping, and travels.

Then came their first international trip together to Bangkok. Grace thought it was just another trip. And, for the most part, Mike made sure she thought so too. Until they had a fancy dinner at the 31st floor of the Landmark hotel. While they were waiting for their meal, Mike said, “Naa koy pangutana sa imuha..” Then, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a cute, 3D-printed cat-shaped ring holder that he had casually carried with him throughout the entire trip and then came the question,

“Will you marry me?”

The moment felt surreal. Grace already knew that their relationship would eventually lead to marriage, but knowing that someday was very different from hearing Mike ask her to spend the rest of her life with him. Of course, she said yes.

And now, after years of getting to know each other, growing together, and choosing each other through every season, Mike and Grace are looking forward to do life together, to be each other’s kakampi and pahinga.

They are honored to begin their marriage surrounded by the people who have been a meaningful part of their lives and they are excited to do life together - exploring new cities, trying out new restos, growing in Christian faith, and building a family together.
